The arc evaporator is intended for vacuum arc coatings deposition. Cathode's material is evaporated in a cathodic spot of a vacuum arc located at the end of the cathode. Stabilization of the location of the arc spot is provided by a set of magnetic coils.

The evaporator can be used for deposition of metallic coatings as long as their compositions: nitrides, carbonnitrides or oxides.
